BLACK HILLS ENERGY??S FREE GRANT-WRITING WORKSHOP WILL BENEFIT NONPROFITS THROUGHOUT SOUTHWEST KANSAS

KSCB News - August 9, 2011 10:36 am

Black Hills Energy–Kansas Gas will host a free grant-writing workshop for nonprofit groups and associations from throughout southwest Kansas later this month in Liberal. Nonprofits are urged to register for the workshop before the Wednesday, Aug. 17 deadline by calling 620-624-5400. Nonprofits need not be a Black Hills Energy customer to register.

“We asked nonprofit managers what topic would be of the most interest and value, and the majority responded with effective grant writing,” said Larissa Long, senior manager of external affairs for Black Hills Energy-Kansas Gas. “We realize the importance of nonprofit agencies throughout the region and so are extending an open invitation to nonprofits from beyond our service territory as well.”

The BHE-sponsored workshop will be presented by Gina Tyler, a grant writer with the Educational Services & Staff Development Association of Central Kansas, headquartered in Hutchinson, Kan. The workshop is Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the First National Bank, 1700 N. Lincoln Ave., in Liberal.

The workshop is an extension of the Black Hills Corp.’s “People Helping People” program, which brings together area nonprofits for a time of networking and learning. Employees and/or volunteers from groups such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, the United Way and other nonprofit organizations take part.
