Brownback Hears Concerns Of Local Ag Producers

KSCB News - July 13, 2011 4:33 pm

Governor Sam Brownback visited Liberal on Wednesday afternoon at the Seward County Event Center. The reason for the visit was so Brownback and his agriculture team could visit with concerned farmers and members of the surrounding communities about the long lasting drought in the area.

The event was a town hall format, with Mike Hanson from the K-State Research Center moderating. Some of the topic of conversation included the “use it or lose it” irrigation policy. Other farmers talked about land that they are having to abandon.

Governor Brownback also asked for advice from the audience on if they had any ideas on how to handle the situation.

Before the event, Brownback went one-by-one through the crowd and shook hands with the large crowd of close to 200. After the event, Brownback met with members of the local media. Earlier in the day, he visited Elkhart and Hugoton.
