Sen. Garrett Love Applauded For Perfect Voting Attendance

KSCB News - June 10, 2011 8:24 am

Senate President Steve Morris, R-Hugoton, today issued a statement commending State Senator Garrett Love, R-Montezuma, for achieving a 100 percent voting attendance record in the 2011 Legislative Session.

Morris said, “Senator Love has clearly set a high priority on his legislative service. The Kansas Legislature is considered a part-time legislative body. The fact that he cares enough about the value of his vote and contribution to the process to be here for every vote recorded is noteworthy and commendable.”

During the 2011 Legislative Session, the Senate recorded 342 roll call votes. Two hundred and forty-eight Senate bills were introduced, along with 69 Senate Resolutions and 9 Senate Concurrent Resolutions. More than 400 House bills were introduced. One hundred and ninety bills will be carried over to the 2012 Legislative Session. Fifty-five Senate bills ultimately passed and were signed into law. Including measures that originated in the House of Representatives, 118 total pieces of legislation have been signed into law by the Governor.

“I consider it a serious part of my legislative duty to make every effort to be here for every vote,” said Sen. Love. “The voters sent me here to represent the district, and I take that responsibility to heart.”

Sen. Love is a member of the following Senate Committees: Agriculture; Assessment and Taxation; Local Government; Natural Resources; and Utilities. He is also a member of the Senate/House Joint Committee on Information Technology.

Sen. Love is serving his first term in the Kansas Senate, having been elected in November 2010 to succeed Tim Huelskamp who was elected to the U.S. Congress. The youngest Senator in Kansas history, Love will be married this summer. The 38th Senate District encompasses all of Ford, Gray, Meade and Seward Counties and portions of Clark and Haskell Counties.
