Kansas Unemployment Edges Down

KSCB News - May 20, 2011 8:15 am

A new report from the Kansas Department of
Labor says the state’s unemployment rate edged lower last month.
The report released Friday shows the seasonally adjusted jobless
rate stood at 6.7 percent in April, down from 6.8 percent in March
and 7.1 percent in April 2010.
The department also says Kansas gained 17,600 nonfarm jobs from
March to April. For the past year, the state lost 1,600 nonfarm
jobs.
State Labor Secretary Karin Brownlee calls the report the first
good news about the economy for some time. She says the state needs
to remain focused on creating private sector jobs to keep the trend
going.
However, an economist says the potential for rising inflation
could stymie growth if unchecked.
