Budget Talks To Reume

KSCB News - May 9, 2011 8:09 am

Kansas legislators are planning to resume
their negotiations over a $14 billion state budget after a
frustrating week of not making much progress on big spending
issues.
Three senators and three House members were scheduled to meet
Monday morning. They still have dozens of differences between their
chambers to resolve in finishing the spending plan for the fiscal
year that begins July 1.
The budget negotiators also can’t agree about how much cash
reserves the budget should leave at the end of June 2012.
The Legislature can’t wrap up its business for the year until
the negotiators agree on the budget and each chamber takes an
up-or-down vote on their compromise.
And Monday is the 87th day of the Legislature’s annual session,
out of 90 scheduled.
