Moran Expresses Disappointment With Governors Veto

KSCB News - April 13, 2009 12:00 am

Congressman Jerry Moran delivered the following statement yesterday after Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed legislation to build two coal-fired electrical generation plants in Western Kansas.

ź??I am deeply disappointed the governor vetoed legislation that would have authorized a facility that proposed to use cutting edge technology to reduce carbon emissions and would have been one of the most environmentally sound and efficient coal-fired plants in the country.

ź??Failure to allow Sunflower Electricź??s proposal to move forward will likely lead to an increase in electricity costs. While I am a proponent of renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar, failure to provide a consistent source of base load power will result in an unstable energy supply and a higher consumer costs.

ź??Coal remains one of the United Statesź?? most abundant natural resource and it is a critical component for establishing our energy independence.ź?ť
