Brownback to Sign Abortion Law

KSCB News - April 12, 2011 8:09 am

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is set to sign two
bills that restrict abortions in the state, including one banning
abortions after 21 weeks on the disputed claim that the fetus can
feel pain.
Brownback, a Republican, planned to sign the measures into law
Tuesday in the Statehouse.
The other bill requires doctors to get the written consent of
parents before performing an abortion on a minor.
Critics of the bills say they will restrict a woman’s access to
health care by placing more regulations on abortion procedures.
Still pending in the Legislature is a bill setting health and
safety rules specifically for abortion clinics and directing the
Department of Health and Environment to write standards for exits,
lighting, bathrooms and equipment.
