Liberal City Commission Meets

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night for their regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers. The meeting kicked off with a proclamation declaring March as National Nutrition Month. This proclamation was accepted by Carol Rittscher of Liberal Memorial Library and one of the organizers of the Children’s Healthy Fun Fair. The Healthy Fun Fair will take place on March the 5th at the Seward County Ag Building. Among the items on the agenda Commissioners approved the Final Reading of Ordinance 4392 with rezones a section of property on East Curtis from Two Family Dwelling District to a Multi Family Dwelling District. This would allow Overland Property Group to construct another apartment complex in that area. The commission also ammended the sign ordinance, amended the Zoning ordinance regarding sign regulations, set a hearing date for the condemnation of 3 South Kansas, the hearing is scheduled for April 12th, awarded the Crack Seal Bid to B & H Paving of Scott City, and reappointed Charles Posl and Terry Kilgore to the Airport Advisory Board. Liberal’s City Commissioners also aprroved the naming of the new South Park in Liberal as the Leete Family Park. The Leete family, as stated in Resolution 2122 have been instrumental in the promotion and support of Liberal on the local, state, national, and international level from the early 1900’s, including the establishment of Pancake Day and the relationship with Olney, England, to the continued support and promotion of Liberal today. The vote to name the park Leete Family Park was unanimous. The commission also approved purchases for Liberal’s Police department. Approved were 3 new fleet line cars, computers and Mobile DataTerminal purchases. The Liberal City Commission will be participating in the Council of Governments Meeting Thursday morning, with the next regularly scheduled meeting set for March the 8th.
