Gov. Brownback To Discuss Economy During State Of State

KSCB News - January 12, 2011 10:01 am

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is using his first State of the State address to lay out initiatives for improving the state’s economy.

He’ll do that in his Wednesday evening speech even as he gives legislators the first hints of how he proposes to eliminate a projected $550 million budget shortfall without raising taxes.

Brownback is scheduled to give the annual speech during a joint session of the Legislature in the House chamber.

Many fellow Republicans are eager for the details of his legislative agenda, anticipating he’ll lead a push for less government, less regulation and lower taxes.

Brownback told The Associated Press on Tuesday that growth will be a key part of his message.
