Kansas Board Of Ed To Focus On School Bullying

KSCB News - December 13, 2010 12:00 am

School bullying will be a main topic of discussion at this week’s Kansas Board of Education meeting.

In November, the board decided a statewide policy to address bullying wasn’t necessary because school districts are required to have their own policies.

But the board directed its staff to report at the December meeting on the feasibility of requiring school districts to add bullying to discipline reports they file to state and federal education departments.

Currently, school districts report bullying incidents under an option for threats or harassments.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that board members also encouraged school districts to take advantage of several anti-bullying programs at the state education department’s online Kansas Safe Schools Resource Center.
