Operation “Holiday Drive” Wrapping Up

KSCB News - December 7, 2010 12:00 am

For the past couple of months the Liberal American Legion and American Legion Auxillary have been conducting a “Holiday Drive” for the veterans at the Thomas Creek Nursing Home and VA Hospital in Amarillo Texas. They have been collecting clothing items of, sleep pants, shirts, house shoes, and socks. The have also collected toiletry items like, soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, combs and brushes. Monetary donations were also received. The studios of KSCB and The Legend along with Aaron Epp Auto repair were drop of points for all the donations. According to Kay Epp and Linda DeCamp, organizers for the drive, they were overwhelmed with the generousity of the community. Original thoughts were they might be able to fill the back of Epp’s Suburban, however with the outpouring of the community, they were able to fill not only the Suburban, but a pick up and a trailer. Students at Cottonwood Intermediate School also got involved, hand making 140 Christmas Cards for the veterans. Epp and DeCamp were overcome with emotion when they stopped by the studios of KSCB and The Legend to pick up the Cards, and could only say” Words can not express how we feel about what the community and surrounding area has done for these soldiers and veterans. Thank you.” The items collected will be delivered to the Thomas Creek Nursing Home and VA Hospital on Friday, December the 10th. Donations will continue to be collected through Thursday December 9th. For more information, you can call Kay Epp at 580-778-3793.
