Redskins Win WAC Outright

KSCB News - October 22, 2010 12:00 am

It wasn’t the result they were looking for, but it will work. Liberal won the WAC soccer title outright after a 1-1 tie at Dodge City Memorial Stadium Thursday in the rain. Isai Gutierrez scored a goal after an assist from Hector Mata with five minutes to go to tie the game. Dodge City’s goal came within the first five minutes of the game. The shots on goal were even at 8-8. Frederic Gomez had three saves. The Redskins didn’t receive a good whistle in this game. They had two goals waived off due to controversial offsides calls and Dodge City had 14 direct kicks compared to Liberal’s four. But the Redskins finish 7-0-1 in the WAC for their 10th straight conference title and a decade of utter dominance in their conference. Dodge finishes 6-1-1 in the WAC. There was a lightning delay before this game was played. The 12-1-3 Redskins host Wichita West Tuesday at 6:30 to begin the 5A playoffs.
