Soybean Planting Expected To Be Up 6%

KSCB News - March 31, 2009 12:00 am

Kansas farmers expect to plant a record soybean crop this spring.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Tuesday that the 3.5 million acres the state’s farmers anticipate seeding with soybeans is up 6 percent from last year.

That larger soybean acreage comes at the expense of corn and sorghum.

Corn planting intentions are down 1 percent to 3.8 million acres in Kansas. Sorghum acreage is expected to be down 3 percent at 2.8 million acres in the state.

Kansas farmers planted last fall an estimated 9 million acres in winter wheat. Wheat acreage is down 6 percent from the previous year in the state.
