Rain and Warm Temperatures Slow Harvest

KSCB News - September 21, 2010 12:00 am

All the rain and warm temperatures last

week spurred more Kansas farm crops toward maturity.

But the Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service says the weather

also slowed harvesting.

The agency’s weekly crop update says 84 percent of the Kansas

corn crop is mature, with about 39 percent of the crop harvested.

That is still far ahead of the 7 percent cut at this time last

year.

About 6 percent of the sorghum has been cut. Soybean harvest is

just beginning in some areas.

Meanwhile, winter wheat planting is about 11 percent complete.
