Elkhart Eyes Breakthrough Season

KSCB News - August 30, 2010 12:00 am

Look out for Elkhart in 2010. The Wildcats return eight starters on boths sides of the ball from a team which went 6-5 and advanced to the second round of the 2A playoffs last year. Khris Buckner comes in to coach the Cats after he was the offensive coordinator in Auburn, Nebraska where they won state in 2006. Their coach who helped rebuild the once proud program Rob Wilson is now a Liberal assistant after three years at Elkhart. Elkhart had been entrenched in a 42 game losing streak until 2008 when they went 3-6. Buckner says they’ll run a multiple offense and his star Marcus Irsik will play running back and quarterback. The senior ran for 1,626 yards and 26 touchdowns last year.

Irsik will also play outside linebacker and safety for Elkhart. Other key Wildcats include: sr. wr/cb James Kelly, sr. wr/cb Jordan Simmons, jr. rg/mlb Jr. Moreno, jr. lg/mlb Jonathan Owens, and sr. fb/te/de Travis Perkins.

Buckner says his team lacks size but is quick and skilled. The Wildcats will be featured during the Sportsguys Monday morning between 7:37 and 9 a.m. on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
