Texas County Burn Ban Lifted

Monday morning at the Texas County Commissioners meeting, the decision to removed the Burn Ban was approved.    Commissioners reviewed information from the area Fire Chiefs, reviewed forecasted weather patterns, and recent fire activity occurring in Texas County which assisted in making the move to remove the Burn Ban.

Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley stated “we have received some rainfall in the past 10-days, but just enough to see some greening of vegetation, this does not mean fire danger in rain deprived areas of Texas County are safe to have a controlled burn”.  When control burns such as brush piles, trash bins, trash barrels, or trash pits are done safely and responsiblythis normally does not cause concerns.  It is recommended before starting a control burn you are aware of forecasted weather changes especially wind direction, speed, and gusts.

All control burns are to be called in to the Texas County 911 Center for proper reporting (580) 468-0915.  When calling, 911 Center will need your name, location of where the fire will occur, what you are burning, and a return phone number.

With the now 100+ degree summer days here, the Burn Ban issue will still be revisited by Commissioners every 7-days.
