Liberal City Commission Meets

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers for their regularly scheduled meeting. Several members of the Liberal BJ board were at the meeting and presented the Liberal City Commission and the City of Liberal with the 2010 National Championship trophy. The trophy will be on display at City Hall before moving to the Liberal BJ display at the Coronado Museum. This marks the 5th time the Liberal BJ’s have won the National title. The commission approved the language for the question on the renewal of the 1 cent sales tax that will appear on the ballot in November. Also approved was Resolution 2099. This outlines that if the 1 cent sales tax renewal is approved, the City will hold an advisory election tolet the voters decide if they desire the bulding of a Recreation Center with funding to come from the 1 cent sales tax. In other action items the commission approved several environmental abatements throughout the City, appointed Gary Dearing to the Mid-America Air Museum Advisory Board, and approved the purchase of a 2011Ford Escape from Foss Ford in the amount of $17,360.00. This vehicle will be used by the Liberal Fire Department. Two items on the agenda were tabled pending the request of more information. Fire hydrants at Southwest Medical Center, and Roadway improvments by Bill Hockett. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be September 14, with a Council of Governments set for Thursday.
