Kobach, Schmidt, and Praeger Dominate Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Insurance Commissioner Primary Races

Kris Kobach who is the co-author of the Arizona Immigration Law has locked up the Republican nomination for Secretary of State. Kobach finished with over 50% of the vote with opponents Elizabeth Ensley and J.R. Claeys splitting the vote. Kobach will face Democrat Chris Biggs in the general election in November. Biggs defeated Chris Steineger in the Democratic Primary by a 60-40% margin.

In Seward County, Kobach earned 50% of the vote compared to Claeys 31% and Ensley’s 19%. Biggs defeated Steineger in Seward by a 66-34% margin.

In the race for Attorney General, Derek Schmidt clinched the Republican nomination with nearly 80% of the vote over Ralph De Zago. Schmidt will face incumbent Steve Six in the general election in November.

In Seward County, Schmidt topped De Zago with 82% of the vote.

Incumbent Republican Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger secured the Republican nomination over challenger David Powell with over 60% of the vote. No Democrat filed, so Praeger will run unopposed in the general election.

In Seward County the race was close though as Praeger held off Powell by just 14 votes.
