Liberal Police Make Arrest after Injury Accident

On January 1st at 4:54AM, officers of the Liberal Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of 7th Street and Calhoun Avenue for reports of an injury motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers began investigating the scene and found a collision had occurred between a 2006 Chrysler 300 driven by Ashley Camacho, 22, Liberal, and a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Ofelia Zepeda-Dejiminez, 54.

Throughout the course of the investigation, it was determined that Camacho was intoxicated and had fled the accident and was located in the 1000 block of Elm Boulevard. A search of her vehicle located marijuana and evidence of alcohol. Camacho was arrested and booked into the Seward County Jail for driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana, transporting an open container of alcohol, interference with a law enforcement officer, failure to stop or yield and failure to stop at an accident and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Officers Abare, Anderson and Shuman investigated this collision. This was LPDs 2nd motor vehicle accident and 1st injury accident of the year.
