GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Seward County Lady Saints women’s soccer team earned its first conference victory of the 2026 season Wednesday afternoon, defeating Garden City 1-0 at Broncbuster Stadium.
Seward improved to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in KJCCC play, while Garden City fell to 6-2-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference action.
Freshman defender Nathalia Reginatto provided the game’s lone goal in the 64th minute, converting a free kick from 30 yards out that sailed over the Broncbuster goalkeeper’s head and into the net.
The goal was Reginatto’s second of the season, with both scores coming on long-range free kicks.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first half despite several scoring opportunities. Playing into the wind, Seward held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots.
With the wind at their backs after halftime, the Lady Saints generated six shots and capitalized on Reginatto’s strike to take the lead.
Garden City applied pressure late, but Seward’s defense stood firm. Goalkeepers Christine Kannengiesser and Caroline Benck combined for the shutout, with Kannengiesser making four saves in the second half and Benck recording one save before halftime.
Seward finished with an 11-10 edge in total shots and an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Garden City goalkeeper Isabella Barsk made six saves.
The Lady Saints return to action Saturday when they travel to Coffeyville for another KJCCC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
