Seward County Community College women’s basketball head coach Antwain Scales announced the hiring of assistant coach Shomari Harris on Monday.
Harris joins the Saints coaching staff after multiple years with the Wichita State women’s basketball program.
She joined the Shockers in 2024 as a graduate assistant and was eventually elevated to Player Development Coach during the 2025-26 season. She worked with Lady Saints head coach Antwain Scales during her time in Wichita.
Harris served as an assistant coach at NJCAA program Kilgore College during the 2023-24 season, helping the Rangers to a 19-13 record.
She spent six years playing professional basketball in El Salvador, Greece, Iran and Germany.
Collegiately, Harris played two years at Collin County Community College to begin her career. She was named a WBCA First Team All-American and a finalist for the NJCAA Player of the Year award and is the second leading scorer in school history (1,024 points).
She transferred to East Texas A&M (at the time NCAA DII) following Collin County, playing one season for the Lions where she was named All-Lone Star Conference honorable mention in 2015-16.
Harris finished her collegiate career at Cal State East Bay during the 2016-17 season. She was named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, named to the D2CCA All-West Region Second Team and helped the Pioneers to a CCAA tournament championship and appearance in the NCAA DII West Regionals. Her 17.0 points per game led the CCAA, while the 4.2 assists per game were second most in the conference. She scored in double figures in 27 of 31 games played and totaled 509 points on the season.
Harris received her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M-Commerce (Now East Texas A&M) in 2017.
