A follow-up Fire Inspection and Building Inspection by City Officials has temporarily closed a local grocery store in Guymon.
Friday morning, the Guymon Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with City of Guymon Building Inspection division performed a follow-up inspection at Carter’s Country Superstore, 1950 N. Hwy 64. “With on-going multiple violations that have not been corrected, it has left Officials no choice but to close the store for life safety and code compliance concerns”, said Fire Chief Grant Wadley.
In September of 2023, the annual Fire Inspection of the business was conducted with multiple violations found at that time. Reasonable time is given to businesses to correct these violations. A second corrective inspection was done in November of 2023 with no corrections. In January of 2024 a third corrective inspection was done with no changes and citations were issued at that time. Today, the fourth inspection was done with no corrections done, updated city business license, and prior citation requirements were also found to have not been done. Store manager, Store owner, and building owners have been advised.
It is the mission of the Guymon Fire Marshal’s Office to serve and protect the citizens and business of Guymon by reducing loss of life and property through life safety inspections, investigations, and code compliance. Any citizen or person visiting or purchasing from business in Guymon should know business owners have their customers best interests and safety.
