Seven LHS Track Athletes Qualify for State

The Liberal High School boys and girls track teams competed in Regionals Friday in Great Bend. The LHS boys finished fifth with 52 points. Newton won with 178 points. Nate Davis and Martavious King qualified for state in the 110 hurdles. Davis finished first in 14.85, while King came in second in 15.24. Morgan Riggs qualified for state in the mile with a fourth place finish. Riggs ran the mile in 4:48.15. In the 300 hurdles it was Nate Davis and Martavious King qualifying for state with second and third place finishes respectively. Davis ran a personal best 39.49, while King finished it with a 41.76. The Skins’ 4×4 team qualified for state with a third place finish in 3:27.51. The 4×4 team consists of Martavious King, Isaac Gallegos, Nate Davis, and Eusebio Lopez.

The Liberal girls finished eighth at Regionals with 23 points. The Newton girls also won Regionals with 114 points. The Lady Skins’ had two individuals qualify for state. Caitlin Bauer finished second in the shot put, while Makayla Mcphail won the javelin.

The State Track & Field Meet will begin next Friday at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.
