SCCC to Host Thanksgiving Meal

Joe Denoyer - November 21, 2019 8:02 pm

It’s a long-standing tradition at Seward County Community College to invite the community for Thanksgiving dinner, and this year is no different. Food service director and enthusiastic chef Maria Sandoval will offer a bountiful feast at no cost to the community, starting at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, though 1:30 p.m.
The menu includes carved turkey, sliced ham, mashed potatoes and homemade turkey gravy, traditional stuffing, candied yams, green bean casserole, homemade creamed corn, cranberry sauce, and homemade pumpkin, pecan, and chocolate silk pies.
“I wanted to keep the tradition, which people have told me they enjoyed,” Sandoval said. “Coming from Garden City, I really appreciate the warm welcome people have given me. It’s an opportunity to meet more of the public.”
It doesn’t hurt, she added, that the menu includes a family favorite of her own: pumpkin pie.
“I love the holidays, and the home traditions connected to Thanksgiving.”
The public is invited to join students and the SCCC campus community at the SCCC cafeteria, with additional seating provided in the Student Union. It’s an opportunity to meet up with friends and family, enjoy a great meal, and savor the flavors of the holiday season.
“In previous years, we’ve welcomed more than 500 guests to the Thanksgiving meal, and we hope to see just as many this year,” said Vice President of Finance and Operations Dennis Sander. “We appreciate our community and the unflagging support shown to the college and our students; this is a small gesture in light of all that, but it comes with our heartfelt gratitude.”
