Saints Go the Distance in Sweep

The Seward County baseball team got two complete games in a sweep of Garden City at Brent Gould Field Saturday afternoon. The Saints won 2-1 in game one in their final at bat and took game two 4-3.

In game two, Gavin Glanz (6-1) pitched all nine innings allowing one earned run for the win. Seward scored three in the first thanks to an RBI double from Jake Barrios who was 2-4 and and RBI single from Kevin Domzalski. Carlos Dorado added a sacrifice fly. The Broncbusters tied the game with one in the second and two unearned runs on two errors in the fifth. The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Willie Gustin whistled a double to left center to score Barrios. Gustin has 17 doubles this year and 31 for his career moving him to 10th on Seward’s all time list.

Steven Polito’s hot shot to short hit off the Garden City shortstop and into center field allowing Johnny Griffith to score home the winning run in the bottom of the 7th in a 2-1 Seward game one win. Keegan Hucul (5-2) outdualed Brenton Higgins of Garden City. Hucul allowed just three hits. The Saints scored their other run in the second when Ben Wainwright hit a sacrifice fly to left. The Saints are 10-7 in the Jayhawk West while Garden is 9-4. Game two is coming up.

The Saints are 18-18 overall and 11-7 in the Jayhawk West while Garden falls to 20-15 overall and 9-5 in the Jayhawk West. The two teams play a double header Sunday at 1 p.m. on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
