Don and Joan Krug

Don Krug, 71 and Joan Krug, 67 both of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away May 24, 2011 from injuries sustained in a tornado on I-40 near Calumet, Oklahoma .

Joan Dianne Lynch was born July 18, 1943 in Denver, Colorado , the daughter of Lewis and Bobbi Lynch. She was adopted and raised in Woodland Park, Colorado . This is where she attended school and graduated from Woodland Park High School with the Class of 1961. She then attended Blair Business College in Colorado Springs.

Don Wesley Krug was born June 5, 1939 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Robert Sterling and Edith Odetta Whitfield Krug. He attended school in Guymon, Oklahoma and graduated from Guymon High School with the Class of 1957. He attended Panhandle A&M for two years and then entered the US Army serving from 1961 until 1963.

While Don was at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs he met Joan at the First Baptist Church in 1962. They were united in marriage on April 7, 1963 in Colorado Springs, Colorado . They made their first home on the family farm near Hough, Oklahoma where they farmed and milked dairy cows . They moved into Guymon and Don worked for Adams Hardfacing and Joan was the secretary for Trinity Baptist Church . She later was secretary for the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Dr. F.P. Cawley and Hammer Construction. They moved to Hooker in 1972 and Don began work for Texas County District 1 in 1999 and he retired April 1, 2011.

Don and Joan were faithful members of the First Baptist Church in Hooker. Don taught Sunday school starting at age fifteen and did so until his death. He was the youngest Deacon at First Southern Baptist Church in Colorado Springs and taught the mixed adult class at First Baptist Church in Hooker for twenty one years.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis & Bobbi Lynch and her birth mother, Marge Goettsch.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Odetta Krug.

Survivors include their four daughters, Linda Ellsworth & her husband Eric of Xenia, Ohio, Lisa Kennedy & her husband Ray of Hooker, Oklahoma , Lara Helps & her husband Darrel of Choctaw, Oklahoma , Luain Packard & her husband Neil of Amarillo, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Rachel & Anthony Ellsworth, Blake, Chad and Jordan Kennedy, Justin & Tyler Helps, Aubrey & Emily Packard, Crystal & Tyler Tullos, Cara & James Bowling, Neil Packard; three great grandsons, Whitaker & Campbell Tullos & Stewart Bowling.

Also surviving are Joan’s mother, Lorene Lynch of Woodland Park, Colorado; her four brothers, Lorenz & Karyl Sutherland of La Junta, Colorado , Steve, David and Phil Goettsch; one sister, Anita Standlee of Woodland Park, Colorado.

Don’s three brothers, Gary & Loretta Krug of Lindsey, Oklahoma , Dr. David & Susie Krug of Drumright, Oklahoma, Bill & Anita Krug of West Lafayette, Indiana.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Brother Jim Roebuck officiating. Interment will be in the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma.
