Water Emergency In Guymon Continues

The critical water levels that caused the city of Guymon to declare an

emergency yesterday has not improved to a level that the Emergency

Declaration can be lifted.

The EMERGENCY DECLARATION will remain in effect until Monday morning and at

that time an Even / Odd Watering Schedule will be implemented until the

water issue is resolved.

AT THIS TIME THE WATERING OF LAWNS AND ANY OTHER UNNECESSARY USE OF WATER

IS PROHIBITED.

Here is the wording of the WATER PROCLAMATION that will govern watering beginning at 6 AM on Monday.

Proclamation

WHEREAS, the City of Guymon is in a water emergency Stage 3; and

WHEREAS, the goal of this stage is to reduce peak demand by 50% and overall weekly consumption by 25% in order to have adequate water supply to sustain life, health and property protection from fire if such an event should occur; and

WHEREAS, the City of Guymon imposes an odd/even watering of lawns. Properties with odd numbered addresses may water on odd numbered calendar days and properties with even numbered addresses may water on even numbered calendar days. Watering of lawns will be after 9:00PM and before 10:00AM; and

WHEREAS, water that is let to flow into the street and gutters is prohibited whether by design, mal adjustment to sprinkler system, or usage during high winds; and

WHEREAS, the City of Guymon will follow the same watering conservation rules as the public; and

WHEREAS, water waste is be prohibited. Water waste is defined as: any water used that is not necessary for life (human, animals and plants), health, or to save property; and

WHEREAS, violation of this resolution is considered a misdemeanor and punishable with fines up to $200 per violation;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Kenny Huckins, Mayor of Guymon, Oklahoma, and the City Council do hereby proclaim the City of Guymon to be under a water usage emergency effective immediately for thirty days unless rescinded by proclamation.
