Authorities in south-central Kansas have found a large-scale marijuana-growing operation, one of eight marijuana plots reported this year in Kansas.
The large marijuana operation found in rural Reno County was discovered Oct. 7 by hunters near Haven.
Rod Page, with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, tells The Hutchinson News it's the fourth such plot found in the past two weeks. He says the large-scale operations are part of a move by organized crime from the border region in the southwest to the Midwest.
Page says each site had between 3,000 and 4,000 marijuana plants. In most cases, those who oversee the crop also live on the property, creating a danger for hunters and landowners who are most likely to stumble upon the plots.
