Liberal BJ right handed pitcher Parker Markel is leaving the BJ's for professional baseball. The right hander from Yavapai College in Arizona signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa selected Markel in the 39th round on June's MLB Amateur Draft.
Markel was 2-2 with a 4.08 ERA for the BJ's. He pitched two scoreless innings of relief Sunday night in Dodge City with three strikeouts. He finishes the summer with 33 strikeouts and 17 walks in 28 and two thirds innings. The 6'3" 210 pound freshman had three saves and a 2-3 record in 38 and two thirds innings at Yavapai.
