Twisters Touch Down in Beaver County

Storm spotters and the Weather Channel's Vortex 2 team reported several tornadoes in Beaver County Sunday afternoon. At 3:52 p.m. multiple storm chasers reported a tornado which started five miles north of Booker and traveled northeast about three miles. At 4:17 p.m. Vortex 2 reported a rain wrapped tornado 11 miles east of Elmwood. Several minutes later, two separate storm chasers reported a tornado in the same location about 10 miles west of Slapout. The tornado was rain wrapped and short lived over open country.

Large hail was also a part of the storm as 2.75 inch diameter hail was reported in Ochiltree County at 4:17 and 5:10 p.m. Hail stones 1.75 inches in diameter were reported in Beaver County eight miles northwest of Slapout.

Flooding resulted from this storm. Water was flowing over Highway 70 15 miles south of Perryton and over Highway 15 eight miles east of Perryton. About 6-8 inches of water was reported on a Beaver County road six miles east of Beaver at 6:23 p.m. Water covered county roads east of Booker by as much as four feet at 1:37 a.m. Monday morning.

Liberal received 2.05 inches of rain Saturday night and Sunday morning.
