Strong Start for SCCC Tennis

The Seward County Saints Tennis team made a statement to the rest of the region this weekend by winning 23 of 24 matches and finishing first in their first tournament of the season. Seward was simply dominate all day at every slot with their 8 singles players combining to go 16-0 in the two day event. Laercio Lobo won 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 over opponents from Kansas Wesleyan and Bethany while Nathan Nelmes handled the same two teams equally as easily with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 wins. Carlos Souza won his first match 6-2, 6-0 before being challenged in his next contest but pulling it out 6-3, 7-6. Fernando Soni took care of his opponents 6-2, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-0 while Christian Romanzini won 6-0, 6-3 and 7-6, 6-4. Eduardo Munoz had two very different matches on the weekend winning 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday and battling 7-6, 6-4 to win Sunday with Stefan Ignjatovic’s weekend being very similar winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-4, 7-5. Rafael Raw finished up singles play in the #8 slot for Seward winning consecutive matches 6-0, 6-1 to give Seward the clean sweep in singles play. Lobo and Nelmes paired to win 2 doubles matches 8-3 with Romanzini and Munoz won their doubles match by the same score. Soni and Souza won in straight sets 8-0 in their first doubles match and took care of their second 8-5 and Ignatovic and Raw swept their doubles play 8-3 and 8-2. Seward was far and above the tournament champions going 23-1 on the weekend.
