Open Meetings Law Violated In Mullinville
05/06/2013

The Kiowa County Attorney says Mullinville's city officials need to take classes on the state's open meetings law.

County Attorney Scott James says the council violated the law by firing a newly elected city council member from his job in the city's public works department during a closed session.

He has asked Mullinville's mayor, mayor, city clerk, four council members and the city attorney to take the classes.

James says last month's firing of Rob Roberts was a technical violation of the law. He says tempers flared during the closed session and city officials forgot to follow the open meetings law.
