Republican Sally Cauble, of Liberal, filed Friday for a second term in the 5th District, which covers 43 counties in western and north-central Kansas.
She's the first candidate in her district to begin campaigning.
Four years ago, Cauble won a Republican primary over incumbent Connie Morris, of St. Francis, a conservative who backed anti-evolution science testing standards.
Cauble said she's running again because she wants to finish some projects. Those include working with federal officials on a new version of the No Child Left Behind law and expanding vocational and technical education.
