Liberal’s 5th grade boys Mid-America Youth Basketball team moved to 7-0 on the season with four wins on Saturday at the Dodge City MAYB tournament. The excitement started early with a 9:00 a.m. game against Holcomb, which hit a game-tying three in the final 30 seconds. After a timeout, Rockets forward Kylan Thomas took the inbounds pass at half court and drove hard to the basket for the game-winning layup with 5 seconds left, lifting Liberal to a 32-30 win. That was followed by a 32-16 win over The Blues, a team from Dodge City and other nearby towns. The Rockets then defeated Spearville 33-27 in a rematch from earlier this season. With first place locked up, a relaxed Liberal team closed with its best all-around game of the tournament, defeating Hays 50-33.

Liberal previously went 3-0 to win the Hutchinson MAYB tournament in early December. The Rockets travel to Buhler January 16-17 before hosting an MAYB event January 30-31.
