Congressman Tiahrt Says He is a 'Yes' Candidate
11/23/2009

Todd Tiahrt During Live From Broadcast Square.

Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt was in Liberal Monday for a Legislative Forum at the Rock Island Depot. Tiahrt is a candidate for a spot in the United States Senate. Tiahrt will be facing Congressman Jerry Moran in the Republican Primary next fall.

Tiahrt talked about a variety of issues including tort reform in health care. He said there is a reason why things such as tort reform can't ever get passed.

"Right now more then half of Congress is lawyers. They're the most heavily represented profession in Washington D.C. I don't think we ought to send another lawyer to Washington D.C., rather it's a Republican or Democrat. Why? Because they look out for each other's pocket books, and there is a reason we can't get tort reform through today," Tiahrt said.

Tiahrt also reminded the crowd of around thirty that his opponent for U.S. Senate next fall Congressman Jerry Moran is a lawyer.

Tiahrt also wants voters to be aware that the latest poll that showed Moran up by 16 points with 30 percent of voters undecided back in early October can be deceiving and that he is within the margin of error and that the poll was automated and done over a weekend with a lot of unaffiliated voters involved in the poll.

When asked what the major difference between Tiahrt and Moran is, he added that it is time for Kansas to move past just a smile and a handshake.

"I have a history that says yes. And a good example is you'll find a whole lot of Tiahrt amendments, you won't find any Moran amendments. I've been out in the front,' Tiahrt said.
