Shooting In Liberal Sunday Morning

On November 22, 2009 at about 1:27 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of North Pershing for a report of a victim of gunshots. Responding officers found Lorenzo Chavez, 33, in the residence with several apparent wounds. There were several individuals in the residence during the attack. No other injuries were reported.

Chavez was transported to Southwest Medical Center by Seward County Emergency Medical Services. He was later transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for the treatment of his injuries.

Witnesses described 2 suspects in the attack. The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male standing approximately six feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He had very short hair and had a large tattoo on the right side of his neck. The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. The second suspect was described as taller than the first wearing a white shirt or hooded sweatshirt.

The investigation of this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Liberal Police Department at 626-0150 or the Crime Hotline at 624-4000 if you wish to remain anonymous. Persons providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible are eligible for a reward.
