Great Bend Man Wins Powerball
11/13/2009

A retired Great Bend man is holding a Powerball lottery ticket worth $96 million. The name of the winner will not be released until they are introduced at a news conference in Topeka Friday afternoon.

One ticket matched all numbers in the Wednesday, November 11 Powerball drawing, winning a jackpot of $96.6 million.

The retailer that sold the ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Kansas Lottery for selling the jackpot-winning Powerball ticket.

Kansas Lottery players now have won 10 Powerball jackpots. The most recent winner was in 2006 when a Topeka resident, who wished to remain anonymous, won a $15 million jackpot. In 2000, 26 American Airlines workers won the largest jackpot won in Kansas of $50 million.

Prior to the Powerball game being played in Kansas, eight Lotto America jackpots were hit in Kansas from 1988 to 1991.

If the jackpot winner decides on the Annuity option, the $96.6 million prize will be paid in graduated annual payments over 29 years (30 payments). If the winner takes the Cash option, the prize will be approximately $48.3 million
