Liberal City Commission Meets, Moves Forward With With School Financing Question

KSCB News - October 8, 2013 10:09 pm

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night for their regularly scheduled meeting. On the agenda was the USD 480 School Board with a proposal to allow the citizens of Liberal the opportunity to vote on a half cent sales tax for the financing of a future school project. The commission voted in favor of pursuing putting the question on a ballot. This was another step in the process of letting the voters answer the question of using a half cent sales tax for the project. An Ordinance will have to be approved before the question is put to a vote. The commission approved the 2013 Standard Traffic Ordinance and the 2013 Public Offense Codes, approved the replat of the Southlawn Gardens Addition, for the Self-Help Housing Program, and approved the purchase of Extrication Equipment for the Liberal Fire Department in the amount of $25,362.72. The commission also approved the bid from White Roofing of Liberal to replace the roof at City Hall due to numerous leaks. The bid came in at $111,472.00. Commissioners approved terminating the City’s uniform contract with ARAMARK due to poor service, and directed staff to pursue talks with Unifirst Uniform Services for their services. The next Liberal City Commission meeting will be October 22.
