Liberal City Commission Meets, Approves New Building Dept. Software

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for their regularly scheduled meeting and opened the meeting by Proclaiming November 2013 Welcome To Liberal Kansas Month. During items from Citizens, Members of the Liberal Gun Club addressed the commission concerning opening the City’s shooting range to the public and expressed disappointment in having to remove their locks from the gates. The range is a City facility and starting Friday, November 15th, will be open for public use from 8:00am – 6:00pm 7 days a week. Other citizens also addressed items regarding LED signs and their placement and restrictions, and Jack Taylor with SPIRIT also spoke befor the commission. The Commission moved to a Second Reading an Ordinance that would establish a Franchise Fee with Black Hills and also approved several environmental and vehicle abatements throughout the City. The Liberal City Commission also agreed to enter into an agreement with Pinegar & Smith for lobbying efforts of behalf of the Southwest Kansas Coalition, approved the acceptance of a STEP Grant for the Police Department in the amount of $3500.00, and entered into a contract with Unifirst for uniform and other micellaneous for the City. The Commission approved the purchase of software for the Building Department in the amount of $62,349.00 and accepted the bid from French Construction to widen the shop doors at the Airport Maintainence Shop for access and storage of snow removal equipment. The amount of the bid was $13,565.00. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be Nov. 26th.
