Johnny Marches his Way to History

KSCB News - May 2, 2013 6:51 am

Seward baseball player Johnny Griffith made history Wednesday. The dual player from Parker, Colorado becomes the first ever JUCO baseball player to sign at Army. He also becomes the first student athlete at Seward to sign on to play sports at Army. Griffith made his decision official before the SCCC/ATS booster club meeting Wednesday afternoon in room 229 of the student union.

The Regis High School graduate plays third base for the Saints and leads them with a .405 average to go with one homer and 25 RBI’s. He ranks second in Seward history with 11 saves including five this season. He says Army wants him primarily as a pitcher but he might work his way into the lineup too.

Griffith will venture to West Point July 1 to begin his training.

He and and Saints host Independence for the best 2 of 3 opening round series of the Region 6 Tournament at Brent Gould Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday and it will air on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
