Foul Loss for Saints in Sports Arena

KSCB News - March 5, 2012 7:20 am

In the end, Seward was just too shorthanded. Five Saints fouled out of a 73-68 overtime loss to the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Hutch shot 48 free thows while the Saints shot 24 in the game. The Saints also had three technicals whisted against them, one against head coach Bryan Zollinger, and two against Daveon Boardingham. Seward’s forward was given one technical for talking trash to Hutch after taking a charge and one for patting the official on the back side after he fouled out of the game.

Despite the foul problems, the Jayhawk West champs still led by as many as 12 in the second half (57-45 with 8:30 to play). Deverell Biggs missed a 17 foot leaner from the right elbow at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. Biggs scored 28 in the loss.

Playing most of the game without post players Edson Avila, Boardingham, and Irvin Hollinger due to foul trouble, the Saints shot 31 percent and did not score in overtime.

The Saints finish the regular season 24-6 overall and 12-4 in the Jayhawk West. Hutch is 24-6 and 11-5 in the Jayhawk West. The Saints fall to 4-40 in the Sports Arena against the Blue Dragons.

The Saints host 2-28 Fort Scott Wednesday night at 8 p.m. to begin the Region 6 Tournament. Windtree Management is the buyout Sponsor.
