Former Seward Assistant Faces KU

KSCB News - March 21, 2013 2:49 pm

Lawrence Brenneman returns to familiar country this weekend. The fifth year assistant at Western Kentucky is in Kansas City for the Hilltoppers first round game Friday night against Kansas. Brenneman was Dave Brown’s assistant at Seward from 1997-2000 when the Saints went 98-38. Brenneman assisted Brown in 1998 when the Saints were 35-3 and finished third in the country. Ironically Brenneman helped Seward guard Tony Heard to make the decision to go to Tulsa and head coach Bill Self. Heard would help Self’s Golden Hurricane to a 32 win season and an Elite 8 finish. Now Brenneman assists head coach Ray Harper who will face Bill Self and 29-5 top seeded KU Friday at 8:50 on Talkradio 1270.

In 1999-2000, Brenneman’s final season on the staff at Seward County Community College, the squad posted a 24-8 overall mark and went 12-4 to finish second in the Jayhawk West Conference. The Saints were 22-11 overall and 10-6 in the league the previous year, while advancing to the semifinals of the region tournament.

Brenneman was a guest Thursday morning on the Sportsguys.
