Boldra Running Grassroots Campaign for Congress

KSCB News - March 26, 2010 12:00 am

United States Republican Congressional hopeful Sue Boldra was in Liberal on Thursday.

Boldra is a native of Hays and has lived in District One her whole life. She taught government in the public school system before retiring and getting her realtor license. Boldra then was offered and took a job at Fort Hays State to teach, which is where she currently teaches.

Boldra said for years she posed questions to her students regarding a grassroots campaign. She asked them if they thought a candidate in the state of Kansas could win without having a lot of money. They felt that a candidate could.

Boldra said what separates her from her opponents is that she is t a career politician.

Boldra stressed how important education is and that she is okay with public schools and home schooling but stressed that not everyone has the ability to home school. She mentioned that one of her opponents current state senator Tim Huelskamp has a 13% voting record when it comes to public education. Boldra also added that the federal government is to involved with education and needs to let the states and local boards run the schools.

Boldra planned on running for U.S. Congress back in 2002, but after 9/11 Jerry Moran decided against a run for Governor, so Boldra chose to wait. She followed Moran on a listening tour last summer to kick off her campaign and this was her second trip to Liberal. Boldra said she plans to follow up with Mora s commitment to improving highways in Southwest Kansas.

Boldra is pro-life, and is not in favor of same-sex marriages, but feels it is a state issue.

The primary election will take place in August.
