Baker Arts Center To Host “Night Of Lights”

KSCB News - November 9, 2011 10:21 am

An elegant evening of fun and fundraising is coming to Liberal this Saturday night. Baker Arts Center will be hosting its annual Night of Lights at the Seward County Ag Building.

Live performance painter Michael Potts will be one of the new features at the fundraiser for the Center this year. Potts specializes in paintings of iconic figures and can turn an oversized canvas into a work of art in less than an hour. His paintings Saturday night will be included in the live auction.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the beginning of the silent auction. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served and live music will entertain guests. Included in the silent auction are home and holiday décor and gifts, fine art, certificates for services, get-a-ways, handcrafted items and more. The silent auction closes at 7:00 p.m.

Following the silent auction, a 50/50 drawing will award one lucky recipient half the “pot”, splitting with the Center.

Auctioneer Mike Gatlin will take over from there with the live auction. Vacations, handcrafted sculpture and other fine art, area entertainment packages, home and holiday décor and other items will go to the block.

Following the auctions, ticketed guests are invited to stick around for After Glow, which will include beverages and musical entertainment.

Night of Lights is a fundraiser for Baker Arts Center’s operational expenses as well as program costs. With the absence of the Kansas Arts Commission, the Center, like many other art agencies across the state is having to fill the gap in funding.

Tickets for the event are available at the Center at 624 N Pershing Ave in Liberal or by calling 620.624.2810. They are $30 in advance and $40 at the door. Preferred seating is available for $300 and includes a table for eight in a prime location on the auction floor.
