U.S. 83 Resurfacing Project Update- Salley Road Intersection Closure on US 83

Joe Denoyer - March 7, 2023 12:36 pm

This is regarding the resurfacing project on U.S. 83 from the K-51 junction to the Kansas/Oklahoma state line in Seward County,

The traffic changes are scheduled to start Wednesday, Mar. 8 around 11 a.m. starting one mile south of the U.S. 83/Salley Road intersection and ending a mile north of the intersection. Northbound traffic will be shifted to the west and southbound traffic will utilize the southbound shoulder for head-to-head traffic.

In this stage of the project, the northbound shoulder will be closed to allow the U.S. 83/ Salley Road intersection improvements which involve adding turning lanes to Salley Road and a turning ramp.

Wednesday, March 8, the traveling public can expect one lane reduction using pilot car operation as the contractor prepares the work zone. Motorists should be aware of delays of up to 15 minutes and the reduction of the speed limit to 50 mph. This operation to shift traffic may last until the end of the day on Friday, March 10. During off hours, the pilot car operation will not be in effect.

Friday, March 10. Salley Road (County Road 7) will be completely shut down on the east side of U.S. 83.

At the K-51/ U.S. 83 junction, the bypass ramp will be closed TODAY (03/07), and K-51 eastbound traffic turning south on U.S. 83 will have to use the intersection to make the right-hand turn. This closure should last mid-April, weather permitting.

Updates on this project will be released as construction continues to progress.
