A rope tornado descended from the sky Sunday afternoon in Liberal causing damage in the south part of town.  The storm hit Liberal late Sunday afternoon with tornado sirens sounding throughout Liberal shortly before 5pm.  The storm caused significant damage to a home at Country Estates and Jerry.  The storm ripped the roof off of the house and the nearby garage. There was also damage in the Sage Mobile Home Park. Strong winds blew oil containers on South Kansas Avenue near Southwest Gas. Power was knocked off in parts of southeast Liberal.  The storm dropped hail and caused the National Weather Service in Dodge City to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for Seward County.  No major injures have been reported.
