Seward Women’s Soccer Picked Last

COLBY, Kan. – The Seward County women’s soccer team has been picked to finish eighth in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

The Saints were picked to finish at the bottom of the league in 2025 after a 2-12-6 overall record and 1-10-5 mark in conference action in 2024. Seward’s season ended in the Region 6 Tournament Quarterfinals with a loss on the road at nationally ranked Butler.

Cowley was picked to win the league, followed by Hutchinson and Butler to round out the top three.

Seward is set to enter a new era in the 2025 season as head coach Marcela Bueno begins her first season leading the Saints, being hired on March 6th, 2025.

Bueno will be just the second head coach in program history as the program enters year three in 2025.

Bueno spent the 2024 season helping Iowa Western finish 16-0-4 and advancing to the NJCAA Division 1 National Semifinals. Prior to her lone year at IWCC, Bueno spent two years in Conway, Ark., as a graduate assistant at the University of Central Arkansas (NCAA Division 1). She also holds coaching experience at Central Baptist College and Central Arkansas Christian High Schol.

A native of São Paulo, Brazil, Bueno spent her collegiate playing career at Ranger College and Central Baptist College.

The Saints travel to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday for an exhibition match at 5 p.m. and will play at Tabor on Tuesday, August 19th, at 5 p.m. to round out their preseason play. The regular season begins Friday, August 22nd as the Saints travel to Otero for a 2 p.m. game.
