The Seward women’s soccer team is 2-0 after winning their Jayhawk Conference opener Wednesday night at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex. SCCC topped the Barton Cougars 3-2 for their first ever win over Barton. Julia Astrath lofted the game winning goal into the top right of the south goal with 3:30 remaining. It was her second goal of the game. Melanni Metango added a goal for the Saints. Ericka Castillo dished an assist. Seward led 2-1 at the half. Barton tied the game almost midway through the second half before Astrath’s decisive goal late in the game. Seward is 2-0 and 1-0 in the KJCCC. Barton is 1-2 and 0-1 in the Jayhawk. Seward hosts #11 Cowley Saturday at 5pm at Redskin Field.
