Seward County to Expand COVID Testing Hours

Joe Denoyer - January 22, 2022 8:03 pm

The State of Kansas has mobilized the National Guard in order to support local health
departments with COVID-19 testing. Guard members arrived in Liberal this week to begin
training with local Health Department staff at our testing site. In addition to the extra staff, the
state is supplying the county with saliva-based testing supplies to meet the recent increase in
demand for testing.
Testing hours at the Seward County Health Department testing site, located at 712 N Western
Ave, will be from 7:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday. These new hours will begin Monday,
January 24, and will remain in effect for the duration of the National Guard presence in Seward
County.
Tests administered by the National Guard will be saliva-based PCR tests. Samples will be taken
at the testing site before being shipped to labs at Wichita State University for processing. Results
will be available within 48 hours. Similar tests were utilized by Seward County throughout most
of 2020 and 2021.
Individuals needing testing must register for a test first. The process requires basic background
information in order to ensure that results are provided to the correct person. Once an individual
has entered the information in the portal, it is saved. If the same individual needs another test,
entering his or her name and date of birth will automatically populate the data. After an
individual has registered for a test, he or she can proceed to the testing site during testing hours.
Sample collecting will include a brief verification of identity in order to match the sample to the
registrant. Once done, the sample is collected, packaged, and sent to the lab for processing.
Results will not be immediately available, but notification will be sent within 48 hours notifying
the individual that results are available.
These tests are PCR and therefore serve as qualified COVID tests for employers or schools
needing verification of results.
