Seward County Prepares for Agricultural Disaster

KSCB News - March 19, 2010 12:00 am

How would a natrual disaster affect agriculture? How would bio-terrorism affect agriculture? Those are a couple of questions which will be addressed at a conference in Liberal next week. The conference is free and open to producers, businessmen, extension personnel, first responders, law enforcement, and anyone involved in agriculture. Strengthening Community Agri-security Planning workshop or “S-CAP” takes place March 25 and 26 from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Liberal Chamber of Commerce at 4 Rock Island Road. K-State Research and Extension’s Mike Hanson says preparation and training are vital. “Our economy is based not solely but heavily on agriculture,” Hanson said Monday on Talkradio 1270’s Live From Broadcast Square. “We have to nip things in the bud if we can and turn things back around as quickly as possible if anything were to happen.” U.S. Homeland Security sponsors the program . Seward County was selected as the Kansas recipient of the program.
